Just one year after the releasing of the GlobalPlatform Card Networked Framework v1.0, which enables a smart card to intuitively connect to the Web, the standards organizaton announces the introduction of a Connectivity Task Force to address the increasing demand for even more comprehensive IP technology. It is the responsibility of the task force to drive GlobalPlatform’s integration of smart card technology into the IP arena.
In addition to outlining a new set of requirements for network-capable products, the group will draw up the process of advancing to this new level.
It will then be the job of GlobalPlatform’s Technical Committees to use this model and encourage technology developers to make the most of a smart card ability that can connect with IP-based infrastructures.
GlobalPlatform hopes that this approach will help the smart card advance further in this marketplace. The expertise and knowledge that is expected to come as a result of the task force will bring a rapid migration of smart cards to IP-connected environments and therefore provide GlobalPlatform technology users a means to develop new services and partnerships online.
