Google Wallet available on AT&T, Verizon
03 February, 2012
category: NFC
Exclusive to Sprint since its launch in 2011, Google Wallet is now being offered on Samsung Galaxy Nexus phones from AT&T and Verizon, according to BriefMobile.
Verizon had originally blocked Google Wallet on the Galaxy Nexus – presumably out of defense of its own NFC payments joint venture Isis with AT&T and T-Mobile. But now it appears the Isis folks have changed their mind, as the Android Market site is now telling AT&T and Verizon customers that Google Wallet is compatible with their Galaxy Nexus phones.
According to BriefMobile, the app is likely in the very first stages of a roll out, and download attempts may be met with error messages. That being said, BM’s Cody Spence reports that he successfully downloaded the app to his AT&T Galaxy.
Google Wallet is still blocked on T-Mobile, but if AT&T and Verizon’s switch is any indication, it shouldn’t be long before all three are offering the app.
