Bibliotheca and Intellident have announced a merger that would combine the two into one of the largest RFID companies in Europe. The union also includes Intellident’s French subsidiary Ident SAS.
With more than 1,200 installations to its name, Intellident will retain the name of this latest merger, which is said to have little impact on the U.S. library RFID market. Financial terms of the Bibliotheca/Intellident merger have not been discussed.
Intellident provides a variety of RFID-based library solutions including its smartServe Lite self-service kiosk for public, private and academic libraries. smartServe Lite allows visitors to borrow, return and renew items. They can also view current loans, fines and even see when reservations are ready for collection.
Earlier this year, Bibliotheca’s U.S. operation and U.S. library RFID provider Integrated Technology Group combined, creating the new company, Bibliotheca ITG, covering both North and South American markets.
