West-Central Michigan-based Mecosta County Medical Center (MCMC) has implemented a new identity and access management infrastructure based on DigitalPersona Pro software and U.are.U fingerprint readers.
This system enables MCMC to give its employees unique digital identities to use in-room VMware virtual desktops to access patient information.
MCMC is a 74-bed acute-care hospital with more than 700 employees. It chose the software and fingerprint reader solution for economic reasons, as well as its ability to quickly integrate with Microsoft Active Directory and leverage the existing directory infrastructure. With the system, MCMC can quickly create identities and provision security policies throughout the system.
The final product enables employees to travel from room to room and throughout departments and pull up their desktop on any location by using a fingerprint reader. This solution has lowered the incidence of password resets throughout the center.
