Morpho announced that the Botswana Police Service (BPS) has signed an agreement that will see Morpho providing two more years of maintenance and support for the agency’s automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS).
The system the agency uses is touted as one of the largest and most advanced of its kind in all of Africa as it manages ten fingerprints and palm prints of persons of interest in 1000 pixel per inch images and collects the data from 61 different sites in the country.
According to officials from the police service, the system has become an integral part of the service’s ability to solve crimes as they have noticed a significant reduction in the time needed to identify persons of interest as well as a significant rise in crime resolution in the country.
