Alien Technologies has introduced new software for its RFID tag readers. The software provides information on the velocity and position of tags, allowing it distinguish between adjacent tagged objects.
Real-world applications include the ability to differentiate between pieces of luggage moving together down a conveyer belt. Until now, readers’ inability to make this distinction often forced luggage handlers to use shielding materials between bags or increase the spacing between them.
Alien’s new software, a free update available for the models ALR-9900, ALR-9800, and ALR-8800, also has a flexible reader distance, ranging from just millimeters to 100 feet.
