Aconite and Proxama have announced the launch of a mobile prepaid solution that will allow South African commuters to pay for fares with the tap of an NFC-enabled phone.
This new mobile proposition, which integrates Proxama’s NFC wallet application, extends the capability of the solution Aconite recently implemented for the South African Transit project. Aconite says its customers will be able to use NFC mobile phones in the same way as contactless chip cards on South Africa’s public taxi-buses, as well as take advantage of marketing services such as coupons and loyalty applications.
Aconite is also integrating its Prepaid Value Manager (PVM) solution for the project. According to Aconite, the PVM can be implemented alongside any existing payment infrastructure to handle the complex processing needed to support the ‘on-card’ value used in EMV based contactless products.
Patrick Regester, Aconite’s SVP Sales & Marketing, comments: “This deployment builds on solutions implemented with our partners, Traderoot and Proxama, and demonstrates the next logical step in the use of contactless applications for ticketing and general retail payments now that NFC mobiles are becoming more readily available.”
