Orange has announced the release of its new contactless prepaid MasterCard bank card “Orange Cash.”
Declared “the UK’s first major contactless prepaid card,” Orange Cash can be loaded with up to £5000 of credit for contactless purchases any of the 30 million locations around the world that accept MasterCard.
Orange Cash cards, which cost £5, can be loaded with money at over 22,000 shops and gas stations across the UK with the PayPoint logo, as well as in 12,000 Post Offices, 450 Orange Retail stores and through the Orange Cash website.
Developed alongside PrePay Solutions, Orange Cash allows users to earn a loyalty point for every £1 they spend, which can be redeemed on Orange’s Pay As You Go phones for free text messages, airtime and coupons for Orange stores.
The new card also lets customers track their spending via mobile phone, as well as top up their Pay As You Go phone directly from their Orange Cash account.
The announcement follows the launch of the Orange contactless credit card in 2010 and this year’s roll out of a commercial contactless mobile payments service on Orange.
