The Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Western Pennsylvania will soon take delivery of RFID-enabled casino chips to prevent counterfeiting, according to a local news report.
The chips will remain in The Meadow’s vault until they can be used during a test to be held in early July. Meanwhile, each table game will be fitted with RFID readers to verify the chips being played are genuine.
The Meadows will also use the newly installed readers to more accurately track how much a guest wagers in order to reward guest play. Readers also will be used by cashiers to immediately tally winnings, as well as detect any potential counterfeits.
The casino invested $360,000 for 184,5000 chips with denominations ranging from $1 to $5,000.
