Proxama acquires Hypertag for NFC promotions

Proxama, a UK-based developer of mobile contactless payments and NFC technology, has announced the acquisition of proximity marketing specialist Hypertag, also from the UK.
According to Proxama, Hypertag will become a division of Proxama focused on delivering proximity marketing campaigns for international brands such as Nokia, Ford, O2 and BP. It will also add NFC to the company’s existing Bluetooth and Wi-Fi marketing propositions.
The Proxama brand will continue its work in developing technology services for NFC applications, such as contactless payments and ticketing.
Proxama will retain the Hypertag brand in the deal as well as incorporate members of the Hypertag senior management team and key staff into the new set-up.
CEO Neil Garner comments, “2011 promises to be a very exciting and fast-moving year for mobile phone usage … we now have an established platform to bring a sea-change to the use of mobile phones as the most valued payment and information tool in people’s hands.”
