Sentry Technology signs a deal with Indiana library

Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Library has signed a $240,000 deal with Sentry Technology to install its QuickCheck self-service kiosks and electromagnetic theft detection systems.
The Hussey-Mayfield collection will be secured using Sentry electromagnetic security labels, detected by the company’s wide aisle management security gate systems. The system will simultaneously process electromagnetic strips to secure library materials, as well as scan encrypted RFID labels to ensure the identity of specific materials remains confidential for each patron.
The QuickCheck system will also give patrons access to the library’s EVERGREEN open source circulation software via a user card and touch screen monitor. A RFID chip on a book, CD or DVD is read, security functions are performed and a receipt is printed to tell the patron what items have been borrowed and when they are due back.
By implementing the enhanced self-checkout system library staff are able to perform more intensive tasks and tend to patrons’ needs.
The system also includes a statistical usage report, as well as remote diagnostic controls and management of QuickCheck’s system over the local network and via the Internet.
