SIMalliance creates NFC Working Group
SIMalliance, a London-based global association made up of SIM card manufacturers, has formed a NFC Working Group aimed at strengthening the role of the SIM in the NFC ecosystem. The new group aims to work with mobile operators, handset manufacturers and other players, such as banks, transport companies and retailers.
First up is an in-depth white paper that will cover the NFC architecture and provide detailed information about SIM-based NFC versus embedded solutions. The group will also approach key partners from the mobile network operator world, including the GSMA, application and hardware developers as well as Trusted Service Managers and Standardization Committees to create a community dedicated to supporting the creation and delivery of SIM-based NFC applications.
“We must promote SIM based NFC and its ability to increase average revenue per user for mobile operators,” said Pawel Chrobok, the NFC Working Group chairman. “To do so, we must clarify the stakeholders, and the vital role of the mobile operator, within the NFC community. We must also play a key role in bringing the ecosystem together, to develop important commercial and technical agreements between service providers and this community.
Some of the SIMalliance members include Gemalto, Giesecke & Devrient, Incard, Oberthur Card Systems and Sagem Orga.
