The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) in Pakistan has released a report placing Pakistan ahead of both the United States and India in terms of biometric, specifically facial recognition, usage throughout the countries, according to a Daily Times article. The results pointed towards roughly 85% of Pakistani citizens using biometrics in some way.
The release came from NADRA Deputy Chairman Tariq Malik as he addressed the audience at the Smart Cards In Government Conference 2009 in Washington DC. The other aspect in Malik’s speech involved his announcement of a pilot program that will provide Pakistani citizens living overseas with smart cards that, together with their biometrics, will allow for smoother reentry into the country at immigration kiosks.
