The Taipei City Government introduced a newer version of its contactless smart card system for payment on the Taipei MRT, buses and other public transport services in Taipei, according to FutureGov.
The revamped EasyCard features heightened security mechanisms to ensure that any personal information stored in the card is well protected against malicious intentions.
“With the new security measures in place, bearers of the new card can feel more at ease if they lose their card. For card bearers who activate the owner registration feature of the card, the EasyCard Corporation will cover monetary damages incurred through the lost card starting six hours after notifying the authorities,” the Mayor said in an official statement.
EasyCard can be used at a variety of venues including the Taipei MRT, railways, buses, taxis, and parking. EasyCards can also be used to pay for purchases at some store including 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, Starbucks, and Pacific SOGO.
