A new payment card with three functions – traditional payments, public transportation and collecting bonus points – is available on the Georgian market, according to The FINANCIAL.
The new Express Card, issued by The National Bank of Georgia, enables cardholders to perform banking transactions, pay transit fare on the Tbilisi metro, buses and mini-buses, as well as the ropeway, while also accumulating points which can be redeemed for free travel with the public transport.
The MasterCard-branded, Express Card can be topped up at Bank of Georgia service centers, also through Express Pay terminals, Internet Banking and Mobile Banking. Bank of Georgia will be soon also installing Express Pay terminals at every bus stop.
About 500 contactless POS terminals where consumers can use the Express Card are already available in Georgia. Bank of Georgia expects some 300,000 Express Cards to be in use in a year’s time, along with more than 5,000 contactless POS terminals to be installed.
