Wired: Chertoff Didn’t Discuss RFID

Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff did not discuss RFID during his speech at the National Emergency Management Association conference, Wired News reports.
However, on Monday he reportedly told a packed room of public safety experts that the United States should create a controversial passport-like form of identification for land border crossings.
Intended primarily for Americans who travel frequently by land or sea to Canada (Mexico is another story), the PASS Card ID has raised eyebrows, Wired reports, because its original design contains a RFID chip that privacy advocates say would allow the government to track a person’s movements.
