GSA approves BIO-key algorithms for use in FIPS 201 solutions

BIO-key International, Inc. announced that the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has included BIO-key’s Vector Segment Technology® (VST) fingerprint software in their listing of approved products as part of the GSA’s FIPS 201 Evaluation Program (GSA FIPS 201 APL). BIO-key’s VST software enables ANSI-INCITS 378 template generation and matching and can be easily integrated into a wide range of credentialing, logical and physical access control solutions. BIO-key’s fingerprint software is reader-independent and works seamlessly with every major fingerprint reader manufacturer, and provides full support for a wide number of single-finger devices included on the GSA FIPS 201 APL. This allows the integrator to select the most appropriate fingerprint device to suit the specific application and provides the flexibility to add new devices from a wide spectrum of suppliers.

Winner of multiple awards, the “Freizeit In” conference and event hotel in Göttingen is one of the most successful conference hotels in Germany. Its affiliated sports and sauna area came back under full control of the hotel after the cancellation of leasing contracts with external operators. The hotel chose GANTNER billing system to handle this complex, multifunctional billing application. The system, which uses LEGIC contactless cards, also provides access control to offline door locks of hotel room doors as well as the turnstile barriers in the wellness area and its electronic locking system for changing room lockers. That same card can be used throughout the entire complex, from the hotel area to the SPA, from the restaurant to the bar and in therapy areas, as the GANTNER system provides all the convenience of cashless, contactless payment with just one single LEGIC guest card.

BIO-key International successfully launched its biometric identification solution, protecting patient’s medical records at The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates (MFA) in Washington, D.C. BIO-key’s patented VST software enables MFA physicians and resident physicians-in-training to quickly and accurately log into their TouchWorks™ Electronic Health Record from Allscripts without needing to remember passwords. Current practice at MFA requires that all physicians, residents, and other authorized clinical staff simply place their finger onto a fingerprint reader in order to gain access to the EHR at computer workstations located throughout the medical facility.

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) will use TriCipher’s multifactor authentication solution to protect access to personal health information on its online patient healthcare portal and physician network – putting the medical center at the forefront of aggressively protecting patients’ identities. The $6 billion medical center’s Web site portal will become the central information access point for more than 4 million patients worldwide and also provide doctors with a secure access to patient health data across the entire medical center, improving patient care and increasing the efficiency of the medical center. UPMC expects to save as much as $2.7 million with TriCipher’s multifactor authentication approach, compared with the costs of managing one-time password tokens (OTP).
