Stetson University ends the use of social security numbers on campus
Following the nationwide trend to eliminate the use of the social security number as a student identifier on campus, Florida’s Stetson University recently completed its conversion to a unique 9-digit ID number. Prior to the conversion, the SSN was printed on the student ID card and used as the primary identifier on campus. It was even provided over the phone to order pizza using the card’s payment fucntionality.
According to a student survey, concerns about the use of the SSN ranked third, trailing only the all-time student complaint title holders … inadequate parking and bad cafeteria food.
