Speaking at an RFID conference in Fargo, North Dakota, Alien Technology CEO George Everhart offered a look at his company’s recent growth spurt and predicted more of the same in the next few years.
According to Everhart, in the last 18 months Alien has gone from having one major customer, Wal-Mart, to a roster of clients ordering more than 50 million RFID tags a year. In August alone, Alien will ship more RFID inlays than it did in all of 2005. This growth is typical of the booming RFID industry as a whole, says Everhart, and he expects it to continue.
In the 2008 fiscal year, Alien expects to double the growth it achieved in 2007. The company expects to double growth again in 2009. To explain this rapid expansion, Everhart points to explosive growth in the use of RFID technology in fields such as document management and baggage tracking.
