Smart Sensors Limited, a UK-based biometrics developer that originated at the University of Bath, has introduced a new iris recognition software development kit (SDK), called MIRLIN, that is capable of up to two million matches per second.
This is the second version of MIRLIN from the company and its reported speeds would make it not only a significant improvement on speed from its predecessor, but also up to four times faster than other similar technologies available.
The reason behind the boost in processing speed is reportedly sue to a solution patented by Smart Sensors that utilizes less processing power. Due to this solution, this also means that building a system to utilize the MIRLIN would require cheaper parts and much more suitable for battery-powered, mobile solutions.
