In a project designed to illustrate the “wirelessness” of wireless RFID technology, London design firm Berg has designed a Rube Goldberg machine using RFID-enabled devices that interact with each other in sequence to perform a simple physical task–in this case turning on a computer.
The design firm teamed up with Norway Near Field Communication (NFC) research team Touch to develop the machine, which it calls “Nearness,” referring to the way in which NFC-enabled devices communicate physically with each other.
Some of the components of “Nearness” include an Oyster Card, NFC-enabled cell phones, and various other mounted RFID sensors.
