Biometric Intelligence and Identification (BI2) Technologies, a Massachusetts-based technology developer, has announced the release of its new iPhone-based multi-modal biometric solution called MORIS.
MORIS, which stands for mobile offender recognition and information system, uses both facial recognition and iris recognition and will be first implemented at the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department in Massachusetts.
Helping push the new technology is a separate system being implemented in the state called the Statewide Facial Recognition program that was contracted by the Massachusetts Sheriff’s Association. In anticipation of the new technology, Plymouth County Sheriff Joseph McDonald has stated that he is looking forward to the quick access to databases of facial features it will give police officers and how easily they will be able to access an individual’s criminal past.
