The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), operator of Bangalore, India’s forthcoming Namma Metro system, has finalized its Contactless Smart Card (CSC) transit pass, according to Deccan Chronicle.
Once the Namma Metro is up and running, passengers will be able to pay for journeys by simply flashing their CSC in front of a reader upon entering and exiting the train station.
“In the near future, these smart cards will be used for multiple applications, like parking, bus fares, paying toll fee and so on,” a senior BMRCL official told Deccan Chronicle. “The smart card becomes beneficial for shopping, too as the BMRCL has plans to tie up with a host of outlets.”
The BMRCL plans to begin issuing CSCs to the public by the end of March through its Ticket Office Machines. The first stretch of the Metro, from Baiyappanahalli to M.G. Road, is scheduled to open on April 4, 2011.
