PCI DSS survey finds need for credit card tokenization guidance

Credit card tokenization projects are largely being ignored despite the inherit security benefits.
Tokenization involves replacing credit card data with a unique identifier or token that could be fed into analytical systems and other processes to eliminate the need to store and access credit card data. The tokenized data would be useless in the hands of an attacker, reports SearchSecurity.com
Despite 40% of survey respondents who plan to use or embrace the technology, funding and anticipation still outweigh progress towards the initiative.
