In a response to increased health care identity theft, Verizon is enhancing its health care identity services with new standards for accessing electronic health records and health information exchanges, along with credentials for electronic prescribing.
Verizon’s Universal Identity Services-Health card product, a cloud-based system provided by its Terremark IT services delivery subsidiary, has added capabilities around legally binding digital signatures, which enable health care providers to authentically and securely to sign secure patient health information like treatment plans, electronic prescriptions, lab reports and discharge orders.
Health care providers can also use the digital signature feature to securely share filings to government agencies and communicate with contractors and business partners. Users can track their digital signature activity through an ID message center.
The service supports federal regulations CFR-1311, which regulates the use of e-prescribing controlled substances, and CFR-21 Part 11, which concerns digital signatures in the submission of electronic records. The service also the SAFE-BioPharma standard for interoperability with government agencies.
The system is compatible with smartphones and tablets running the iOS, Android and Blackberry operating systems.
