Microsoft leaves NFC up to phone manufacturers

Windows’ latest 7.5 mobile operating system features support for NFC but it will be up to the equipment manufacturers whether or not to enable the technology, reports SlashGear.
As of yet, no phone manufacturer has released a Windows 7 handset with NFC, but this is expected to change, according to Will Coleman, product manager at Microsoft UK.
“It’s about just about timing,” Coleman told TechRadar. “In the not too distant future there are some exciting things that will be coming through with NFC from Microsoft.”
NFC-enabled Windows-based phones from Samsung have already been introduced in Korea and Japan, according to SlashGear. For the rest of the world, it’s a “when” rather than “if” question, assured Keith Varty, head of apps and partnerships for Nokia, which recently introduced the “Lumia 800” Windows phone.
“We need to get a [Windows Phone] device into the marketplace with NFC capabilities, and when we do we can really start to showcase our services,” added Varty.
