The Nepalese Election Commission (EC) has completed nearly all its biometric voter registration as all but one district and just shy of 10 million citizens have been enrolled, according to a My Republica article.
The final district to begin enrollment, Banke, is slated to begin by Jan. 5 and by completed by the end of January.
The total number of citizens the commission expects to have enrolled when the program is completed is roughly 10.5 million, which is less than the 17.6 million that were registered for the country’s 2008 Constituent Assembly elections. This is a considerably higher number considering the commission employed a door-to-door approach to registration as opposed to opening centers and kiosks and having the citizens to come in and register themselves.
The final step once all citizens are enrolled and before the list of voters is made public is checking the list for errors and duplications.
