SANTA ANA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sept. 15, 2003–Hirsch Electronics announces a new line of high security access control devices using smart ID cards. ScrambleSmart(TM) integrates a hidden contactless reader into Hirsch’s ScramblePad(R), while BioSmart(TM) integrates the smart card reader into the industry’s most popular biometric device, a fingerprint reader.
“We partnered with our supplier to develop a standard configuration that transparently integrates a MIFARE(R) antenna and electronics into our ScramblePad,” stated Rob Zivney, VP Marketing. “And, unlike most smart card and biometric devices, ours operate at the industry standard voltage for readers – 5Vdc.”
Hirsch holds a patent for the design elements in the ScrambleSmart. It provides dual-technology operation in a standard ScramblePad form factor. Additionally, BioSmart can be used alongside a ScramblePad to deliver triple-technology high security.
“Customers requested we integrate smart card technologies into our award-winning security management system,” continued Zivney. “Now, those that want to implement smart cards can save money by utilizing Hirsch’s high-security digital communications between the controller and our universal reader interface for long wiring runs, multi-drop configurations, and, often, fewer controllers.” Additionally, the smart card readers receive power from the universal reader interface, so no separate power source is required at the reader. And they operate from the controller’s UPS in the case of a power outage.
To complete the family, Hirsch also offers a standard smart card reader in both mullion and Euro-Asian form factors; an enrollment station that stores fingerprint templates onto the smart cards; an encoder kit to add unique ID numbers, custom user information, and encryption keys onto the correct sectors of the smart card; cards, available preprinted or ready for photo badging; and printers that create photo badges and encode the MIFARE chip.
