Expats in Kuwait’s public sector to have smart cards

Kuwait’s Public Authority for Civil Information (PAIC) will be phasing out identity cards for foreigners working in the country’s public service sector in favor of smart cards, reports the Gulf News.
The PAIC plans on replacing all identity cards with smart cards, and it will phase them in as expats’ identity cards expire.
This is in line with the PAIC’s transition to smart cards for all Kuwaiti nationals. Kuwaiti citizens must have their new cards by the end of May in order to comply with the government’s June 1 deadline for making the transition to the smart card.
