Gemalto announced that it will work with a group of engineering students at the University of Texas at Austin to develop an NFC-based marketing solution.
The project is part of UT’s 1 Semester Startup (1SS) program, which involves 10 teams of undergraduates working together to launch their own startup business. Gemalto will provide one of these 1SS teams with NFC tags and software developer suites to further test and develop a platform for its startup project, Lynxin. According to Gemalto, Lynxin aims to connect corporations to consumers by designing customized promotions that use NFC technology.
“Gemalto’s partnering with this startup team of Cockrell School of Engineering students is a great example of the Austin innovation ecology in action,” said Bob Metcalfe Professor of Innovation at UT and leader of the 1SS program. “How fortunate we are to have the North American headquarters of this billion-dollar security company in our midst and with such a great attitude toward innovation.”
