Uttar Pradesh to issue biometric driver’s licenses

The state of Uttar Pradesh in India will be issuing smart card driving licenses with biometric features, reports India Today.
The licenses will feature digital signatures, biometric thumb impressions and a picture of the license holder.
License applicants must now apply for licenses in person in order to capture the biometric information. The government will collect this information in a database to prevent issuing multiple licenses. It intends to use this database to develop a state and national register.
