RFID transponder and inlay developer SMARTRAC has revealed Australia-based NFCWireless as the winner of its global NFCTags partner competition.
The NFCTags partner competition began in December 2012 with the goal of providing developers and inventive newcomers with an outlet to showcase their products and solutions to a global audience at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this month. Participating products and solutions had to be available commercially in order to qualify for the competition.
NFCWireless took home top honors with its “Tagster” NFC packs, which contain 6 NFC “hotdots” equipped with SMARTRAC Midas NFC inlays. The NFC packs can be used to carry out useful actions on mobile phones by simply tapping a hotdot tag— send a text message, call a number or open a URL on their NFC-enabled phone. Each Tagster pack also contains an embedded NFC tag that enables users to directly download Tagster’s free encoding app.
Since the product’s launch, NFCWireless has received positive market feedback, and winning the NFCTags partner competition is the icing on the cake. NFCWireless is the first major NFC solution provider with a common retail NFC tag package, and the company viewed the Mobile World Congress as the perfect venue to demo the Tagster solution.
The Mobile World Congress will be held in Barcelona from February 25 to 28. The Congress acts as a showcase for the mobile industry, and is attended by senior executives from a number of major mobile phone companies, handset manufacturers, and app providers. The Tagster solution will be on display at the SMARTRAC booth #7I30.
