The problems with passwords will go away with a new device trying to get funding on Kickstarter. Mark Thacker, the COO and co-founder of myIDkey, has a startup that developed a USB-sized device which stores and displays secure passwords and information, according to a report on dvice.com.
MyIDkey uses fingerprint for authentication and voice-activation to unlock passwords and files that are securely stored on the cloud and then viewed on the device’s small screen. Not only can it store and display passwords, important files can be stored on the device, such as Social Security numbers, phone numbers and photos, explains Ben Chen, myIDkey’s executive chairman.
The user taps or swipes the finger on the device’s small pad, then vocally command it to view specific information, asking “Chase checking” or “Wi-Fi password.” The OLED screen displays the information stored from the cloud, or computer, using the USB outlet or Bluetooth, and can be changed and updated through any device.
The cloud-based storage enables for multiple “keys” between family and friends. Bluetooth lets the user view their files on their mobile phone, or plug the USB outlet into a computer. Also, once synced, the device can automatically fill in secure login information on the web. MyIDkey has an application for iPhones too.
MyIDkey can be preordered on Kickstarter for $99, and will be shipped in September 2013.
