LEGIC’s all-in-one card technology can be embedded in NFC-enabled phones, allowing the devices to open doors, buy products from a vending machine, purchase a bus ticket and more, the company announced during CeBIT in Hanover, Germany. Availability is planned through leading third party smart card-based NFC mobile phones, provided and supported by major network operators.
What a comfort – having access to your fitness centre or to the cinema with your personal mobile phone. This vision comes true with the latest development of LEGIC Identsystems Ltd.
LEGIC recently demonstrated at CeBIT LEGIC applications embedded in mobile phones based on Near Field Communication technology (NFC), allowing phones to open doors, pay at vending machines, buy a ticket for the public bus or gain access to a fitness centre.
These and many other applications can be used with LEGIC’s new secure all-in-one card area which can be embedded in an NFC mobile phone. End users will be able to use their mobile phones the same way as they use their multi-functional badge cards today. This will increase end users’ convenience because they have their mobile phone always along without worrying anymore about their badges or member cards. In the future, the badge card and tickets may become interactive by having dynamic user interface and secure connectivity through mobile networks.
The proven all-in-one card technology of LEGIC is planned to be available on leading third party smart card based NFC mobile phones, provided and supported by major network operators like Swisscom. LEGIC’s powerful multi-application and security concept can be seamlessly integrated into the new credential types.
Typical applications include physical access to doors and buildings or ticketing, buying drinks at vending machines in fitness centres and corporate time & attendance. End users, system operators and service providers will be able to take advantage of over 2000 different applications from a worldwide partner network of over 200 LEGIC licensees.
LEGIC works with leading smart card and mobile phone suppliers, operators and service providers and major network operators such as Swisscom for mobile phone solutions, Adasoft in the field of security and access control solutions and other leading suppliers of vending solutions to develop new use models and pilot projects. LEGIC, Swisscom and Adasoft and other leading suppliers are engaged in a joint pilot project with the aim to bring LEGIC solutions into the mobile phones and to make them available to customers in Switzerland.
This new development is a first of a series to embrace the converging use of smart cards. It is based on JavaCard technology and will give an outlook of further innovative products of LEGIC Identsystems Ltd.
