Liska Biometry has recently received FIPS 201 approval from the US Federal Government for its suite of DCS5000 image capture platforms that use a standardized digital camera. Also, the Company has received FIPS approval for its Facial Recognition Middleware. The suite is also capable of producing International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) compliant portraits. Liska’s FIPS-approved “Middleware for Facial Recognition” works with all of Liska’s camera environments.
Liska biometry gave a good explanation of what exactly middleware is. “Middleware is the software that organizes the portraits in the correct FIPS format, and ensures that the streaming of all images or transmission of all images is done in the exact same manner. With all FIPS programs there are two portraits (images) that are stored and filed, and therefore, all parties sending and receiving these images need to understand that the format is correct for not only the image but how the images are organized.”
Liska Biometry Receives FIPS-201 Approval for DCS5000 Image Capture Platforms and Middleware
DOVER, NH, June 01, 2007–Liska Biometry (OTCBB: LSKA), a leading provider of biometric identification solutions, today announced that it has recently received FIPS-201 approval from the US Federal Government for its suite of DCS5000 image capture platforms that use a standardized digital camera. Also, the Company has received FIPS approval for its Facial Recognition Middleware.
This follows the FIPS-201 approval of the DCS8000 platforms that the Company announced in April, which uses a “progressive scan,” customized video camera. Both suites are compliant with all FIPS standards and are also capable of producing International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) compliant portraits.
The specific items approved are: DCS5000S Camera with accompanying software; DCS5000SP Camera with accompanying software and custom portable photo booth; DCS5000SF Camera with accompanying software and custom Fixed Photo booth; and DCS5000SFR Camera with accompanying software, custom Fixed Photo booth, and Infrared lighting system.
Liska’s FIPS-approved “Middleware for Facial Recognition” works with all of Liska’s camera environments. The Middleware is the software that organizes the portraits in the correct FIPS format, and ensures that the streaming of all images or transmission of all images is done in the exact same manner. With all FIPS programs there are two portraits (images) that are stored and filed, and therefore, all parties sending and receiving these images need to understand that the format is correct for not only the image but how the images are organized.
Brian Walsh, Vice President of Global Solutions for Liska, stated, “As with the 8000 series, this approval is the passport into the federal government marketplace. We are very pleased that both the 8000 and 5000 suites have met these rigorous standards, and we expect to be very competitive in the government marketplace beyond the federal government because of this approval. The same technology has been and will continue to be integrated into government-issued ID and credentials around the world.”
Christopher LeClerc, President of Liska, said, “In the government segment of the ID market, there is a sense that US federal government approval is the gold standard; if it’s good enough for Uncle Sam, its good enough for everyone else in the space. We believe that this approval will not only allow us to sell effectively to the federal government in Washington, but also that it will serve as a third-party endorsement that will open doors for us in many other countries and sub-national jurisdictions.”
Federal Information Processing Standard 201, entitled Personal Identity Verification of Federal Employees and Contractors, was developed to satisfy the requirements of Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12, which mandates a new, more secure government-wide standard for all identity credentials issued by the Federal Government to its employees and contractors.
