RFID provider Sirit Inc. has signed a strategic supply agreement with 3M’s Brazilian subsidiary for Sirit’s RFID reader and tag technology to support transportation-related projects in the Brazilian market. The agreement builds upon the Global Cooperative Marketing Agreement signed earlier this year between 3M’s Traffic Safety Systems Division and Sirit.
3M Brazil is a leading supplier of materials, solutions and systems to the transportation industry in Brazil. Its deal with Sirit focuses on Sirit’s IDentity 5100 (“ID5100”) reader and transponder combined with 3M’s traffic technology solutions, to create a comprehensive tolling solution for Brazilian roadways.
The partnership has already resulted in successful tests of RFID-enabled tolling applications in several Brazilian states, including Rio Grande do Sul and Rio de Janeiro. The success of these tests has led 3M Brazil to begin deploying the ID5100 reader and transponder technology in over 40 electronic toll lanes, a number that could expand to 400 lane systems over the next year.
