Los Angeles-based Mojix has announced the successful trial run of their STAR asset tracking solution at REWE Group’s distribution center in Buttenheim, Germany.
REWE Group, the third largest food retailer in Europe, operates in 15 countries with 15,000 retail outlets, with 29 distribution centers in Germany. The company’s supply chain annually commissions about 36 million pallets and roll containers in Germany alone.
Mojix outfitted perishable and non-perishable food pallets at the 40,000 square meter distribution center with long-range UHF passive RFID tags. The system provides the ability to read RFID tags on stacked pallets across the 105 dock doors with 99.9 per cent accuracy. According to Mojix, these results mimic those of active RFID systems, but at a much lower cost.
With the STAR system, REWE group expects to reap a number of cost and efficiency benefits, including significant reduction of losses from wrong shipments to retail outlets, effective tracking of goods through the shipping process, and more efficient cost-allocation for RTIs to retail outlets.
