Thailand-based software developer SAI Biz Solutions is launching an NFC-based restaurant ordering system with Bangkok’s Big Mama Pizzeria, according to Bloomberg Business Week.
SAI Biz’s system enables Big Mama diners with NFC-enabled phones to order by tapping their handsets against NFC tags placed inside the restaurant. The action automatically launches a menu on the user’s phone complete with prices and details on ingredients. Once the customer selects his or her pizza, the order is instantly sent back to the kitchen and the customer is given an estimate of the time it will take for the pizza to be ready.
“This system could cut waiting time for waiters during peak hours,” said SAI Biz’s managing director Ashoo Agarwal. “It could also help overcome language barriers for foreign customers when communicating with waiters.”
Agarwal added that once MasterCard agrees to support NFC payments in Thailand, customers could also use the system to pay for their meals via a MasterCard credit card stored on their phone.
According to Business Week, SAI hopes to expand the system to fast food chains and medium-sized restaurant both in Thailand and Singapore, and is currently developing NFC services for parking lots, universities and hospitals.
