Irvine, CA (October 17, 2002) – HID Corporation and AcSys Biometrics are developing a practical and affordable new solution for access control that combines the high security of biometrics with iCLASS, a new generation of 13.56 MHz read/write contactless smart card technology from HID.
AcSys Biometrics will integrate iCLASS contactless smart card technology into its facial recognition reader. iCLASS, optimized for access control, delivers the security and versatility of smart cards, yet retains the affordability and convenience of proximity. This new access control solution offers one-to-one biometric template authentication (one security credential and only one person who can use it).
In the new system, facial templates will be securely stored on the cards, making iCLASS smart cards portable databases that are well-suited for installations spanning multiple sites. Storing the template on the card simplifies system start-up and enables the support of unlimited populations. It also eliminates the redundant wiring requirement for biometric template management, lowering implementation costs significantly.
“One of the qualities that make iCLASS technology unique is its open architecture, which enables us to partner so easily with cutting-edge companies like AcSys Biometrics,” said Mark Scaparro, executive vice president of sales and marketing for HID.
HID Corporation, AcSys Biometrics, and LumeraCom Inc. (a licensed dealer and integrator of AcSys Biometrics facial recognition technology) have partnered to install the Intelligent Identification & Access System (IIAS) at the General Aviation and Flight Training School facility of Bill Law Aviation, located at the Greater Rochester International Airport. iCLASS technology will be integrated into a seamless, multi-dimensional security solution for general aviation and flight training operations.
This new aviation security system will provide an automated means to register and badge individuals seeking tarmac access, control vital entry and exit points to secure areas, and monitor access to those areas around-the-clock. LumeraCom will install AcSys Biometrics’ biometric facial recognition functionality with secure barrier management, as well as automated administrative, auditing, and law-enforcement notification processes.
“With strong partner technologies and companies like HID, AcSys Biometrics can enhance security solutions that provide the ultimate in personal identity authentication and employee protection,” said Barry Hodge, President of AcSys Biometrics.
Jeff Black, CEO of LumeraCom, adds, “As an FAA licensed pilot, I am well aware of the necessity for very effective and scalable security solutions for the General Aviation and Flight Training Industry. AcSys Biometrics offers the best facial recognition technology on the market today. We have combined that with a secure smart card badging system based on registered government IDs (i.e. Driver’s Licenses), to meet the needs of this vital aviation segment.”
