ADT is using RFID technology to make home security simpler, or at least reduce the number of passwords cluttering consumers’ minds. The security company has introduced the SafeWatch SafePass system, which uses RFID-enabled key fobs to eliminate the need to enter a code to activate or deactivate a home alarm system.
With the new system, a homeowner waves the key fob near the alarm touch pad to activate or disarm the alarm. Extra key fobs are available for family members or others who might need access to the house, such as a maid or babysitter. As a bonus feature of the system, individual key fobs can be programmed with restricted access. The device assigned to a maid, for instance, can be restricted to allow access only during the set weekly hours the maid will be in the home.
