Earlier this month, IBM and OATSystems announced they would be providing software to Airbus for what they called the largest RFID project in the history of the manufacturing industry Airbus is now offering more details on what will be involved in their aggressive end-to-end restructuring of the manufacturing process.
The transformation is expected to take many years, but is currently broken down into three phases. First, the supply chains will be revamped, putting emphasis on supplier integration and shipment accuracy. Next, the actual manufacturing process will be retooled to improve process precision. Finally, maintenance processes will be focused on, with all the parts in individual airplanes automatically tracked for service issues.
