Acatel-Lucent, McAfee partner on laptop security

Alcatel-Lucent announced a solution with McAfee Inc. that integrates the Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian (NLG) with McAfee Endpoint Encryption software. Alcatel-Lucent also has joined the McAfee Security Innovation Alliance to enable smart card pre-boot authentication and “remote kill” capabilities for laptops, helping assure data protection and compliance.
The new products are designed as a security solution for lost and stolen laptops. The system, also offers extensive auditing and reporting capabilities to meet industry and government compliance requirements. Alcatel-Lucent’s OmniAccess 3500 NLG has the ability to integrate with encryption vendors like McAfee to enhance the existing solution by enabling enterprises to oversee the security on their mobile laptops and the data they contain 24×7, regardless of the power state of the laptop.
The Nonstop Laptop Guardian leverages 3G wireless enabling enterprises to manage and secure mobile laptops to the same degree as desktop computers are managed and secured. IT staff can deliver patches or software updates, track location and secure and control data to a laptop at anytime, even when the laptop is turned off.
The McAfee Endpoint Encryption software uses encryption and access control to prevent unauthorized access to data. A key feature of the Endpoint Encryption is its full-disk encryption, which ensures that information remains secure on mobile devices. This solution offers a number of additional features, including file and folder encryption, synchronized password changes and centralized management.
