The Chicago Transit Authority is hoping to cash in on the latest transit wave: using credit cards to pay for those rides. The CTA is looking to implement a contactless credit card equipped with an application that will enable users to pay for transit rides.
“You tap the card against the card reader and get on the CTA. It removes the barrier of having to get our type of fare card,” said a CTA spokesperson. Visa, MasterCard and other credit card and banking companies will be invited to bid for contracts, CTA officials said.
Under the new system, consumers would be able to carry one card to cover just about any expense, from lattes to laundry bills, airfares and CTA transit rides.
