Consumer electronics producer Aluratek has introduced a new line of external hard drives featuring RFID security key data encryption. The Tornado plus line of hard drives offer capacities from 160GB to 1TB, data transfer rates of up to 480Mbps, and compatibility with popular Microsoft and Macintosh operating systems.
To encrypt data transferred onto the external drives, users simply swipe a unique RFID security key by the drive. A second swipe unlocks the data. Two keys are shipped with each drive.
The Tornado plus line, which is available at a variety of consumer electronic outlets, is priced at $119 for the smaller drive and $249 for the larger desktop model.
