Austriamicrosystems and NXP Semiconductors announced development of a reference design incorporating RFID technology for product authentication in embedded consumer applications.
The authentication system includes the AS399x ultra-high frequency RFID reader from AMS and the G2iL microcontroller from NXP, and offers password protected features, privacy commands and anti-tampering functions.
Designed for applications where authentication of consumables plays an important, the RFID technology could help log when a non-authentic consumable is used and support the equipment manufacturer’s option to void a customer’s warranty.
