Anti-RFID student claims tags made her sick
MySanAntonio.com’s Class Notes blog reports that Andrea Hernandez, the Texas student who sued the Northside Independent School District last year over wearing a school ID badge embedded with an RFID tag, said radiation in the tags on other students’ IDs have made her sick.
Hernandez protested the program on religious grounds, but this week told legislators on the state’s House Committee on Public Education during public testimony on House Bill 101 that she believed the tags contained radiation, which made her sick.
The company that makes the tags testified to the contrary, saying the tags don’t produce radiation.
The bill would mandate school boards approving the implementation of RFID programs and allow parents to opt out of RFID programs in schools.
