Apple’s OS X Lion ships without CDSA and smart card support

Apple has decided to deprecate the Common Data Security Architecture in its new OS X Lion, reports The Mac Observer.
While users will still be able to use smart card services in Lion and utilize third-party options, the components and services will not be bundled into Lion. Customers can use their smart cards on OS X 10.6 and 10.7 as long as they have a supported Token for the smart card profile.
Instead, Apple will focus on creating solutions for digital identity problems on OS X and iOS. As is typical for the company, it will focus on new ways to improve its technology and infrastructure.
