Aussie taxis to get contactless payment technology

Cabcharge Australia plans to install VeriFone EFTPOS terminals in all 18,000 of its taxi cabs. The new system will support chip and PIN, pen and PIN, contactless and, later, NFC which would allow fares to be paid with cell phones.
Cabcharge expects to have the installations complete by December 2009. According to VeriFone, its system combines the smallest footprint coupled with an ATM-style interface, large keypad and high resolution display.
