Australian company fights fraud with biometrics

The Personnel Risk Management Group (PRM), an Australia-based personnel management services company, has begun offering services through an agreement with Germany-based developer Avalon Biometrics to check credentials of persons of interest through a Web site, according to a Sydney Morning Herald article.
Beyond making background checks on individuals more comprehensive and accessible through their new system, PRM’s system also brings results back in roughly 24 hours, much faster than older systems.
Most of who PRM deals with is companies performing checks on their employees or potential employees to ensure they are who they say they are as well as have the credentials they claim.
Biometrics has become increasingly important for such checks, however, due to the need for more than just a name to check a person’s past. Much of this comes from women changing their last name when married and not having the new surname matching their past record which could include felonies or other legal issues.
