Toronto-based Autologic Innovations, a provider of automotive management solutions and software, has teamed with NCR corporation to create an RFID-enabled inventory management system for automotive sales lots. The system combines Autologic’s Track-A-Lot software system with NCR’s EasyPoint Advantage kiosk to offer Canadian auto dealerships on-demand inventory and location updates as well as simplify the test drive process.
As part of the solution, all vehicles on a lot are equipped with semi-passive RFID tags. Kiosks placed around the lot scan the tags to keep track of inventory and location of cars, eliminating the need for physical counts by staff. The system also helps enhance theft-prevention programs.
If a customer wishes to take a test drive, a salesperson just scans the vehicle’s RFID-enabled key fob at the kiosk, and enters the customer’s name and driver’s license number via a touchscreen. The information is recorded in the Track-A-Lot software, and the need for paperwork is removed.
